Certificate Name Mismatch Error

Feb 3, 2017

The 'certificate name mismatch' error occurs when the domain listed on the SSL certificate presented by the server does not match the domain that the browser is connected to. For a HTTPS session to commence, the domain on the certificate must exactly match the domain in the browser address bar.

a)       You are trying to access the website using IP address. Hence using the FQDN.

b)       You have multiple websites running on Webserver, but mistakenly all are pointing to same Port. Hence try to access the website and put the specific port number where you have binded the certificate.

c)        You have multiple websites using One IP address. Hence please check if you can use dedicated IP address for each website or check if SNI is enabled and supported by the server.

d)       The certificate was issued to domain.com, but www.domain.com was typed into the. browser

Technically, you can procure SAN certificate or Wild Card certificate which will secure multi –domains and multi sub domains respectively in order to take care of the above error.
